Policy

In the agricultural sector, policy changes bring major implications for the sector structure and size, as well as for the future prospects of individual farmers. We portray the expected effects of alternative policies.

Area analysis

Connecting Agri & Food is an authority in terms of calculating the effects of policies in the agricultural sector. Increasingly, an area-based approach is proving important in this because of large regional differences. We conducted such area analyses for several provinces in 2023 as part of the Provincial Rural Area Programs to be drawn up, in which provinces set out how they are going to meet targets for nature, nitrogen, water and climate. An area-based approach takes into account the different land types that lead to differences in both bottlenecks and possible solution directions for the area's businesses. Differences in intensity per acre, as well as differences in farm type, and entrepreneurship, among others, play a role in such area analyses.

Vision of agriculture in the countryside

Connecting Agri & Food, with its in-depth knowledge of the agricultural sector, contributes to informed visions for the rural area. In this way, we visualize the issues in the outlying area and help think through possible adjustments and the role of licensing. Such visions address issues such as climate adaptation, nature and biodiversity, desiccation, vacant agricultural buildings, energy and protein transition, and the role of the agricultural sector in the transition to a circular bio-based economy.

Risk Assessment Policy

New ways of licensing are being sought in the agricultural sector, such as licensing based on target requirements. These new systems offer the prospect of realizing cost-effective solutions to improve environmental quality. But there are also certain risks involved, including compliance. Compliance is influenced on the one hand by the sensitivity of a regulation to be violated and on the other by the threat of a sanction. Connecting Agri & Food can conduct a risk assessment for this purpose, incorporating the perspective of various stakeholders.
